Thirty years ago the few of us involved in photography were always positive about the publication of any photographic album believing that regardless of the quality of the work it was very important that many photographic voices be heard. But in the years that followed a stormy promotion of photography was observed with a hasty emphasis on its artistic version and with a corresponding overproduction of photo albums. The boundaries now between photographic art and blurred and indiscernible. Many times one even gets the impression that the more people deal with photography the less they understand it. Based on the above observations the definition of the identity of a book that includes photographs has become a necessary condition for its critical approach so as to give the appropriate weight and appropriate content both to the texts and to the photographs included in it.
The first direction for the characterization of the book will be determined e-commerce photo editing by the general form and conception of the publication which will lead to its characterization as a simple book or as an album. Then and if the second option prevails the way the photographs are presented and their involvement with the texts will be largely responsible for the characterization of the album as artistic historical or otherwise. This confusion is caused by the multidimensional nature of photography which can often change content and function depending on its use and the context in which it is exhibited or published andor the intentions of its creator.
The volume and weight of this particular album combined with the high quality of the photographic reproductions automatically leads to the conclusion that the presentation of the photographs and their aesthetic value is the first goal of the publication much more than their historical content and the accompanying texts . But the arrangement and presentation of the photographs also reinforces this view with the reproductions being large and individual per page and often per sheet. Something like this leads the viewer to search for a special aesthetic visual creative dimension – the exact term is not so important – however a dimension that has an artistic content and to allow the photographs to function and evoke emotions through their very presence and the photographic event they information they convey.
