Faced with the ever-increasing weight of marketplaces and faced with the many constraints inherent in the creation and animation of a commercial site, we are entitled to wonder which model is ideal in terms of e-commerce. Overview of the market, solutions and questions to study… E-commerce in France and around the world The potential of e-commerce is undeniable: in France, 38.2 million people, or 88.2% of Internet users, have already made a purchase on the Internet¹. Last year, online sales rose again by 13.4% and were spread over more than 200,000 active merchant sites². The main e-commerce players have turned to the market Philippine phone number list model, launched in 2002 by Amazon, by opening their platform to third-party sellers and thus offering themselves an ever-wider product offer. So much so that 'marketplaces' now represent half of the volume of sales in value in international e-commerce and 1/3 in France³. In China, the Alibaba group alone monopolizes 80% of the country's online sales via its marketplace site TMall, which has become essential.
In the United States, it is the large number of marketplaces that stands out. And with us, most of the e-commerce sites in the top 10 are based on this model: Amazon, CDisount, Fnac, eBay or even OuiSncf (which does not only sell SNCF offers). Should we think that the hegemony of marketplaces in France will grow further, like the Chinese and American examples? Merchant site or marketplace: the different models For “small sellers”, benefiting from the visibility of tens of thousands of monthly visitors for their products thanks to a marketplace is a godsend. So much so that today, a merchant who would like to start selling online has every reason to wonder about the procedure to follow and the need to create his own website. However, the choice is not obvious. Let's take a look at the possible solutions: 1. Create a site with a platform in Saas mode (software as a service) such as Shopify, Oxatis or even.

WiziShop or Prestabox. This turnkey tool is accessible via a monthly subscription and gives you access to a fairly simple functional package that allows easy handling, without development knowledge. 2. Deploy an Open Source e-commerce solution (Woo-commerce, Prestashop or Magento). This device requires technical knowledge but allows in return to go much further in the personalization and the functional scope. One condition for getting started: having a budget envelope at the start. The price depending on the complexity of the site to be developed, we can just speak of an average (and wide) range of between 5,000 and 50,000€. 3. Become a seller on a marketplace. In which case it is necessary to find the appropriate platform(s) and dissect their prices and commissions on sales. Note that there are B2C and B2B marketplaces. Analyze the different models carefully. So at Amazon you have the choice of whether or not to manage shipments via the two FBM or FBA offers for 'fulfilled by the merchant' or 'by Amazon' (FBA).
