This species of cetacean, which is also known as the Greenland whale, was attributed the traits that are common to other animals of the same genus. However, in the 1990s some clues were found in living whales that hinted at one thing: some assumptions about this species were wrong . In those years, remains of harpoons dating from the late 19th century were discovered in living whales. You just had to do the math. Those animals had been alive for more than 100 years , which far exceeded the life expectancy attributed to them. From then on, the study of these cetaceans has intensified, which by the way is now known to live up to 200 years.
The University of British Columbia, in western Canada, has carried out research to deepen our knowledge of these animals. And it has used drones to capture images of the whales in their habitat , specifically mobile number list in the enormous bay of Cumberland Sound, in the Canadian arctic. The aerial devices have been used to take high-quality photographs and videos during the breeding period, in summer. It is a more precise material than what was obtained up to now , recording from ships or from small planes. In this case, drones allow us to get closer to the animals, so that their behavior and social activities can be better observed. drones The researchers were impressed by the social bonds the whales demonstrated.

They frequently swim in a coordinated manner and it is not uncommon to see them rubbing together and seeking physical contact with each other. The main advantage that drones have over observation from a boat is that the boat cannot get very close to the cetaceans without interfering with their natural activity. Instead, the aerial devices were placed at a distance of only 12 meters without the animal showing concern. With a boat the maximum approach distance could be about 100 meters. The method followed by the scientists was to approach from a boat at a reasonable distance and from there take the drones to fly.
