The media,think tanks and publishing houses, among others, and thus we managed to establish a sample universe of 466 cases. Before dwelling on the analysis of some of the most relevant findings of this study, it seems important to indicate two features of the sample obtained from the Chilean elite. In the first place, the data reveals that it is a predominantly male group: only 19% of those surveyed are women. This difference is more marked in the economic elite, which is made up of 92% men, while the sample of the political elite has 80% men and that of the cultural elite, 72%. Second, the data reflects that the elite in general is more religious than the rest of the citizenry.
While 45% of the adult population in Chile declares itself Singapore Phone Number List Catholic, this figure rises to 58% in the elite. This difference is particularly marked for the economic elite: 70% identify as Catholic. At the same time, It is observed that among the adult population of Chile there are 15% who declare themselves evangelical and 20% who do not declare any religion, while in the elite on average only 1% identify themselves as evangelical and 10% indicate they have no religion. These data on gender and religiosity anticipate a topic that we will analyze in greater depth below, namely, a significant gap between elites and citizens in Chile today.
Ideological polarization There is no doubt that the political debate in Chile is increasingly polarized. Just think of the discussion regarding the constitutional plebiscite held at the end of last year, when one sector argued that modifying the Constitution would imply the collapse of the country and the implementation of a "Castro-Chavista" model, while another argued that through the The transformation of the Constitution could overcome a large part of the problems and give rise to the prompt formation of a Welfare State that would root out inequalities.
