The Pew Research Center surveyed more than 12,000 American adults between July 18 and September 21. The results show that the number of American adults who often receive news from TikTok has increased sharply in the past two years, from 3% in 2020 to 10% in 2022.
TikTok is the most popular news source with Denmark Phone Number List 18 to 29 year olds. Of these, 26% typically watch news on the platform this year, up from 18% in 2021 and 9% in 2020.
Watching news on TikTok is also increasing in other age segments. 10% of people aged 30 to 49 receive news on TikTok, up from 6% in 2021 and 2% in 2020. For people aged 50 and over, the rate is 4%, unchanged from 3%. of a year ago.
One-third of TikTok users update news on the app, up from 22% in 2020. TikTok's rise is the loss of Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit.

The percentage of users who regularly watch news on Facebook has dropped 10% in the past two years, from 54% in 2020 to 44% in 2022. Twitter is down 6%, and Reddit is down 5% in the same period.
Overall, though, the number of Americans reading news on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit is still overwhelming compared to TikTok.
Specifically, 53% of adults read news on Twitter , 44% on Facebook, 37% on Reddit, 33% on TikTok. It is unclear at the current rate, when TikTok will overtake these three platforms.
Many eyes will be on TikTok and other social networks during the US midterm elections next month. Some have announced efforts to combat misinformation.
For instance, TikTok bans celebrity paid political content ( KOLs ) and works with fact-checking organizations to flag inaccurate news.
Meta and Twitter also have similar moves. Meta will restrict new political ads to the week before the election. Twitter enforces the Civic Integrity policy, labeling tweets misleading and linking to the official source.
However, Fortune assesses that the above efforts will not be able to completely eliminate the problem of fake news on social networks.
