Since Musk took over Twitter, Mastodon has gained over 2 million users

Mastodon, a decentralized social media platform that many resort to as alternatives to Twitter, has seen its user base skyrocket from around 300,000 monthly active users to 2.5 million between October and November, said Mastodon CEO, founder and lead developer Eugen Rochko in a new post on the service blog. Rochko's post also addresses Twitter's now lifted bans on sharing links to Mastodon , many journalists, and the @joinmastodon account itself after ElonJet's ban is still in place.

It's a stark reminder that centralized platforms can place arbitrary and unfair limits on what you can and cannot say while holding you hostage to a social networking site. At Mastodon, we believe that there must be no middleman between you and the public, and especially journalists and phone number list government institutions should not rely on a private platform to reach the public. Rochko said Mastodon isn't the only Twitter replacement that Twitter users will run to. Rochko, however, seems confident about Mastodon's future. “Understanding that freedom of expression is absolutely essential to a functioning democracy, we are excited to see Mastodon grow and become a household name in newsrooms around the world, and we are committed to continuing to improve our software to meet the new challenges that come along with with rapid growth and increasing demand,” he wrote.
