What are subdomains?
Subdomains, also known as third-level domains, are used on a technical level to separate specific content from the content of a company's main website. But the separation is not just for purely technical reasons: most companies that use subdomains aim to achieve as many different hits as possible in the search results. The search engine giants Google, Yahoo and Bing do not view subdomains as independent content from one and the same operator, but rather interpret them as content from unrelated website operators.
